DC Generator Alternator
A dc alternator is an electrical device that works on the principle of electromagnetic induction and converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. Here, a dc alternator induces an alternating current in the stator and that current is further rectified and converted into unidirectional dc current using rectifiers and filters.
The dc current produced by dc alternators is more consistent and smooth compared to output of regular dc generators.
DC alternators mainly find their applications in vehicles to supply power to the electrical components such as lights, radio and also to charge the batteries of the locomotives.
